yoga journal...

woke early....mind working overtime
yesterday was a heavy day ( stress wise ) and I think my brain was still there!
(trying to get my 1st assignment in...before my hols
trying to sort out apprenticeship applications for my 16 year old..
sorting holiday arrangements out for forth coming holiday...clothes, toiletries, taxi to airport, making provisions for family members!!! ( 3 days time !)
getting a card and gift for mine and hubbies anniversary..2moro!! ( even though he WILL forget )
not forgetting all the usual day to day things that have to be done...)
And breathe.....
I noticed my body was still there too as I got out of bed....back and joints were noticably stiff....i think they were stressed too!!! holding on to all those memories from yesterday
Unbelievable how stress can affect the body as well as the mind...my body takes on a whole new shape/posture when I am stressed... shoulders and ears noticably connected ๐Ÿ˜‰ spine slumped into my hips!!! and the pain in the base of the skull must be due to my head wanting to disappear in between my clavicle and scapula!!!  ( no wander I'm aching ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
Need to address this with a few nice in breaths/out breaths...stretching my arms above my head and taking a nice full body stretch...getting my neck and head back to normal position! rolling my shoulders back and forth and getting them away from my ears...
Positivity starts to return as I remember I have a yoga class in a couple of hours...( not just any class, but my favorite one of the week)
As the morning went on ..its fair to say that a few negative thoughts crept..
(my cousin rang to say she wouldnt be able to make the class as she had to much to do for our hols!)
(yes I've got loads to do too?  I could do a quick session at home and crack on with my jobs!!)
so easy to let negative thought stop us doing things....that little voice in the head
But I'm glad to say...I went and as usual it was amazing/inspiring/exhilarating/
The instructor was full of her usual energy...puts me in the mind of a perfect sun salutation..
and I instantly remembered why she had inspired me to want to be an instructor and to hopefully pass on to others, what she gives to me ๐Ÿ’“
Why did I even consider not coming?
Image result for yoga quotes image freewe started with a deep breaths in and out, calming us and getting us ready for the class.
we did some shaking nxt!! knees bent slightly and shaking our booties, and then doing small jumps on the spot and hugging ourselves/slapping our backs....sounds a bit odd..but it served to wake up our bodies and create energy and warmth, and a little bit of humour, ( when you spotted yeself in the mirror )  breaking down any awkwardness in the class....again I asked myself
'why would I want to do chores instead of this?' I love my yoga
Nicely warm now....we continue into adho mukha svanasana..with an opportunity to pedal our heels to release our calf/hamstrings,( i still struggle with getting my heels to the floor, but it is a working progress )  bending from side to side, with bended knees, feeling a good stretch in each side of the body....thoughts of yesterday melting away as I push myself into the twists, releasing the stiffness from my shoulders
next was sun salutations, again stretching getting rid of stiffness, enjoying breathing into the forward folds and backbends releasing any remaining tension....allowing me to focus and feel my mind becoming calm.
next came the twisted asanas....starting with intense pose,  twisted chair pose, massaging the internal muscles... I have been trying to improve this as I felt my flexibility was not very good, although I do think it is improving, our instructor encourages us to twist as fully as possible...onto twisted lunges..feeling very stretched!! more to come..onto twisted triangle...I always feel my alignment is not good in this pose.even with the help of the block.(which could be why its not one of my favorite poses ) the instructor came round and helped us with alignment..but I do find breathing in this pose quite tough.
is at this stage I get a few negative thought pop into my mind, struggling a bit now..need to learn to focus more....more than half way through the class and its tough going
opportunity to rest a little and to relax into the pose...into a belly twist...i like this pose more, and we are encouraged to try the variations, one leg extended etc
we end with shoulder stand moving into plough...I love the roll motion into plough....releasing the back
we settled into Balasana Baby pose ..phew opportunity to relax into this lovly pose..lenghtening and stretching the spine, shoulders and even the legs, instructor encouraging us to sit right back on our heels and reach gently forward....focusing on our breathing, calming down our breath /minds.
and onto relaxation.......

To do yoga everyday is a gift to ourselves
a gift that brings with it many benefits

No 2 days are the same ..something we all agree on I'm sure
Some mornings we wake and are full of energy and good intentions..
and other days we wake and that energy somehow still seems to be sleeping!!
Sometimes that energy needs a little nudge or a kick up the gluteus maximus ๐Ÿ˜‰
Yoga is a perfect way to do this..
on days like these I take a few nice deep inhales and exhales...stretching the arms above my head...inhale and reach for the sky and lower arms to the side of the body as you exhale..after several of these I move on to forward fold...
Forward fold with knees bent and exhale deeply, exhaling out that stale breath from the body..let body be quite relaxed /floppy as you exhale down..and gently draw in abdominal muscles, helping to push out that stale breath..repeat this several times....
I try to let this sequence flow smoothly from Tadasana ( mountain pose ) through to Uttanasana ( standing forward fold )
I am gentle with my body 1st thing in the morning and allow my knees to be bent in uttanasana, and move on to legs being straight after several sequences ( and if it feels good )
It is important to work to our own bodies limitations..it is our practise.
I soon feel the energy/warmth waking....
This sequence only takes minutes but sets me up for the day....so even if I am very limited on time I can still fit this in....and hopefully time permitting I can follow this with either a home practise or instructor led class at the gym.....
Have a fab day

6 a.m.
Another early start for me ( balance class at 9.30)
Not so much soreness this morning as I stepped out of bed ๐Ÿ‘Œ
(  not to say that I cant feel my aches )
This is good it reminds me that I have been working hard, I'm aware of my upper arms in particular, and the muscles in the arms, still feeling sore. ( oh yes and pain in the butt ๐Ÿ˜‰ gluteus maximus )
( I remember in particular about 2 years ago, before taking up yoga, that I was experiencing a lot of discomfort in my wrists and elbows.  I remember being quite concerned about it, it was obvious for quite a few months and even just the simplest of every day actions, such as leaning on my elbow or carrying shopping would be very sore. I remember distinctly thinking 'Damn, I'm getting old!!' ๐Ÿ‘ต  and I was not happy about it. ) ( not particularly the getting old side of it, although, to be fair, I'm not happy about that at all, but its inevitable!!!, it is more the ailments that are associated with getting old!  that I object to)
another excellent reason to be as healthy as possible...be the best you.... see previous blogs
I can truthfully say on a day to day basis I do NOT have pain in my wrists, yes, if I have been doing a lot more yoga which particularly uses arms/ wrists/shoulders etc I do experience discomfort, BUT, and for me this is the important bit, it is temporary and reminds me that I am working hard and getting stronger)
Image result for adho mukha svanasanaso back to this morning....

I put the soreness down to the increased amount of adho mukha svanasana, ( downward facing dog poses) both at home /classes.
Probably one of the most widely recognised asanas ( moves/postures )
and a very good all in one posture which gives multiple benefits  ( to be revisited in future blogs)

Image result for adho mukha svanasana so continuing my day with some slow and deep inhale/exhale breaths ( see previous post )
before going through my sun salutations ( see previous post ) and now onto several repetitions of adho mukha svanasana to stretch out all those muscles...

onwards and upwards

journal Sun salutation

Up nice and early..and I use the term NICE loosely!
Been doing more classes than usual and really pushing myself and felt very tired when I woke at about 5.45 a.m. to get my son off to work๐Ÿ˜ซ
By 5,45 I would of had approximately 6 hours sleep and ordinarily that would be more than enough for me.
But this is not ordinary!!
for the last month I have been doing 6 classes a week ( 1 per day ) which means I have doubled the classes...( usually doing just 3 a week )
These consisted of yoga and body balance, as well as my Yoga at home.
So after dragging myself out of bed feeling, to be honest, quite sore  I had my 1st glass of water and took a few slow deep breaths ..in through the nose and out through the nose ...filling my lungs with oxgen and getting rid of the carbon dioxide....I like to really exhale deeply and as fully as possible...pulling the abdominal muscles in ....an action that I liken to ringing out washing!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Image result for sun salutationsthis always puts me in the right frame of mind to start my 1st asana of the day
Today its Sun Salutations.....so here goes
I love this ..it stretches the whole body....and again gives the opportunity to fill my lungs with oxygen...
I  ease myself into each asana...I like to work to my maximum and over the last few years I have noticed that it has really paid off....( I am getting deeper into the asana) still loads of room for improvement...
(Only work to your own limitations...its your practise )
I try to keep a fluid movement ..gracefully moving through the moves ...breathing slowly and gently... feeling the energy spread through the body.
Sun salutation leaves me feeling strong and helps gets rid of the stiffness that has built up due to extra exercise
I do 2/3 rounds today as I have a class later on.
Although I feel tired initially..( I expect this to subside once my body gets used to the extra work load)   I still have loads of energy to take me through the day....and I feel stronger and leaner and more healthy...actually I feel full of sun salutation ๐Ÿ˜‰
A fantastic way to start the day....

yoga journal Tadasana

I love to practice every day...
bit extreme some people might say....
I havnt got time...i hear you say
But yoga practice does not only mean spending an hour or so on the mat at a class!
it can be very beneficial to spend 10/15 mins each day. It can be 1st thing in the morning or evening or lunch time..in fact it can be anytime that is good for you It is your practice
So pick a time that works for you...
if you are a busy mum/dad with youngsters maybe 1st thing in the morning is never going to be an option ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ ( early morning is a fab time to practice ..so may be putting the alarm on for 15 minutes earlier...and beating the mayhem that comes with having a young family, is an option....just a thought ๐Ÿ˜‰)
I like to start my day with a glass of water ( this has many health benefits which I will go into at a later date )
Image result for mountain pose in yoga deep breathingMy yoga practice starts with a few deep breaths..like so
stand tall and straight in tadasana ( mountain pose ) as shown
Experience the complete stretch as you take a full body stretch from feet through hips/abdomen/chest/throat/arms/ head.....fill your whole body with breath as you breath in through the nose, whilst raising the arms above the head... out through the mouth lowering the arms back to the side of the body..as you breathe out...
I repeat this several times.
I personally like to keep my feet a few inches apart allowing me more stability.
There are many variations and can be modified to suit each individual.....most importantly do what is good for you...work to your limitations...It is your practice
I will then follow with other asanas (positions) usually depending on how i feel at the time and what i think I will benefit most from on any given day...... ( more on these in next blogs ๐Ÿ˜)
Enjoy your day

Excited to be going to my favorite #yoga class to date....
so its been 2 weeks due to bank holiday opening hours etc
and yes its fair to say that I was getting withdrawal symptoms ๐Ÿ˜‰

of course I have been going to other classes... #body balance #yoga ..attending the gym...
its fair to say that if I dont get my daily dose of exercise I do feel very down !!!
but this one particular class I always miss more than the others
Its quite an intense yoga class and always leaves me feeling exhilarated if not a little taller than when I went in... ๐Ÿ˜‰
The Instructor is a beautiful young woman who just gives off this amazing aura...
as soon as she walks in, you feel transported into the spirit of Yoga....
she spends time to chat to the class and makes every one relaxed....
Related imageshe is full of passion and expression and effortlessly spreads this through the whole class within minutes of arriving,  and its fair to say that when I leave I always feel as if I am taking some of it with me.....
Yes I can truthfully say that it was when I met this beautiful human being that I decided I too wanted to be a Yoga Instructor   ( if at all possible ) to learn more about it
Thank you...you have inspired me  x

Of course I had always wanted to teach and pass on the benefits of exercise and a healthy life style to others, but some how the time never seemed right until now.....
Now was the time and hopefully for the rest of my life
I had found my passion...and I wanted to pass this feeling ( that she gives to us ) on to others and to show as many people as possible the benefits of this beautiful way of life

As Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says, “Yoga is not just exercise and asanas. It is the emotional integration and spiritual elevation with a touch of mystic element, which gives you a glimpse of something beyond all imagination.”

adopted revisited....

Unimaginable how watching #Long Lost Families  can bring back such vivid memories...
just seeing a birth certificate ...and the word  Adopted  on it

in that place... just added on the edge of the form...no real place for it to go...

it catapulted me back in time...a real awful day in my life on so many levels....
strange thing is how you relive not just the event but the feelings...

The day didnt start off bad...the opposite in fact...I needed to get a copy of my birth certificate..I was getting married...

and due to my very dysfunctional childhood ( thats being polite )  it was a f**k up to be honest...my birth certificate had been lost/ misplaced/ thrown away...who knows?  ( bit like myself and my sister )

so I had to go to the births/marriages/deaths department to request a copy...not too difficult.... I hear you say...little did I know what the day would hold

Its fair to say that I wasnt as calm then,  as what I am today, but in the same situation I would probably react the same....

I dont know what I was expecting ...and the wait in the reception area didnt help matters.....
But when the woman handed me this newly printed form I was not prepared for what was on it.....
The only word that I saw was

Image result for adopted!

I was confused....

I was so angry....hurt...upset...distraught...
I was livid!!!!!
The poor woman didnt know what to do
'what is that doing on there!!!!? '
'What have you wrote that on there for? ' I shrieked at her
'Take it off...take it off ' I carried on shouting
I thought you knew...she said trying to remain calm
'I dont want that on ...so you can print me another and take it off!!! '
( to me it was that matter of fact...thats what I wanted ! )
I can hear myself now...see myself ...like someone demented!!!!

I just turned and leant against the wall...I just wanted to slide down it ..tears streaming down my face ..which I was not gonna let her see
even though I was grown up and away from her...that awful God forsaken excuse for a human being who adopted me was still managing to hurt me..affect me....
that made me even more angry......
and unlike the situation where I was able to get away from her and leave the awful events behind me..
I was not able to get away from this!!!!!
all that was going through my head was how I was going to get it off!!!!
I could hear the woman talking to me but the words just werent going in.....
'Unfortunately that has to stop on there..its a legal document and cant be altered' she told me
that was not what I wanted to hear....

I left the office empty handed....
I was not going to have that document with that on it!!!
funny thing was that i convinced myself in a moment that I didnt need it and I could get married without it!!!!

Moral of this story is...you think you get over things... that you have drawn a line under it..shut the door....but in reality....theres always a TRIGGER
when you least expect it..when you have dropped your guard
BAM!!!!

Related imageThe good thing is I know I have moved on so much...and I think it is what makes me strong now...its definitely what make me feel so blessed for what I have and the person I am now...my family and frends and how far away from those awful beginnings , I have come.

Thank the Blessed Lord for what you have blessed me with
x

Good evening  Image result for good evening free images

So this is the 2nd of my blogs on Mudra....
this is not meant to be in any order of importance or any other kind of order.... just randomly picked
Hopefully this will reinforce my understanding!!!  ( I did say hopefully ๐Ÿ™ˆ)
This mudra would of been really useful to have learnt years ago...if only I'd of known it!!
Shuni Mudra
Image result for shuni mudra free image

Also known as the Seal of Patience.
The tip of the middle finger and tip of the thumb come together uniting the elements of fire and connection, using just enough pressure to feel the flow of energy but not too whiten the fingertips. The remaining 3 fingers are straight but not rigid.

This mudra symbolises patience and discipline encouraging compassion, understanding and patience towards others.....helping to develop noble thoughts, turning negative emotions into positive ones.

this mudra can be especially useful if you feel yourself becoming impatient with someone/something.
benefits also include seeing through to the end of tasks.

ie.  if someone you are meeting is running late!  ( this is going to be practised a lot when I am waiting for my daughter! ) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mudra

When I started to do Yoga, I thought it was a combination of stretches poses meditation and some very strange words.....so the word mudra was something very alien to me.
As time went on I wanted to know more about Yoga..so that meant getting to know these mudras ...
as these are quite often part of yoga classes.
They are symbolic gestures often practiced with the hands and fingers. A seal
so a hasta mudra means hand gesture and they are adopted during asana (posture), pranayama (prana..meaning fundamental life force and ayama meaning control or extend/draw out).... and meditation.
I find the actual explanation very confusing but hopefully as times goes on it will become clear ..er ! ๐Ÿ˜‰
A mudra is performed to direct the flow of energy through the body for various purposes
ie promote healing or calming the mind
Related imageSimply put ...It is said that our hands hold each of the basic elements: fire (thumb), air (index finger), space (middle finger), earth (ring finger) and water (pinky finger)
Different areas of the hands are connected with areas in the body and the brain. So when we place our hands in yoga mudras, we stimulate different areas of the brain and create a specific energy circuit in the body. By doing this, we help generate a specific state of mind.
One such Mudra is Guyan Mudra or chin mudra
join the tips of the index finger and thumb to form Guyan Mudra as shown above. keeping the other 3 fingers together and slightly stretched.
It symbolises the unity of fire and air as well as the unity of universal and individual consciousness.
The Gyana mudra increases concentration, creativity, and is a gesture of knowledge.
They can be performed anytime, although sitting in the lotus/cross legged position and focusing on healing can be advantageous.  As with many mudras  regular practice will contribute to overall good health.
The theory is that when a finger representing am element is brought into contact with the thumb, that element is brought into balance.

meno....pause

Yep I can see now why they call it..... MENO.....PAUSE
for me every symptom has paused not stopped but does everything in slow speed....

Menopause, also known as the climacteric, is the time in most women's lives when menstrual periods stop permanently, and they are no longer able to bear children.[2][8] ( Wikipedia )

I was probably about 15 when I 1st had a period..so about
average ..I think.
I was regular and had a period about every 28 days except
when I had my 5 children.
symptoms of oncoming period briefly included....
lower back pain 3 days before...
headache couple of days before ...very tender breasts week
 before...
nausea day before and during period and obviously
stomach pains.....

I was quite surprised at 53 to be still having regular periods.
It was just after this that I noticed changes which included...

  • time between period would be 5 weeks..then 6 weeks
  • symptoms worse
  • symptoms would be start earlier and last for longer and be more acute
  • period would last longer
  • emotional meltdown
  • panic attacks
  • nausea especially would be more obvious and last longer
  • tiredness ( which I know could be due to age or doing more exercise )
  • stomach hard and bloated for 4 weeks out of six
so now its been approximately 3 months since I had a period
Image result for period cartoons free imageand yes I was thinking...
I wasnt going to have any more...
(I did have a test last year which said I hadnt many more eggs
left and I wouldnt have any more periods after last year..
but hey ho...
they are still apperioding ๐Ÿ˜‰  Sorry I couldnt resist it...
( its a good job that I still took precautions ๐Ÿ˜‰)
or there could of been a bambino on the scene...
( joking apart though...when I was told I hadnt many eggs left..
I immediately went into a bit of a panic and came over all
maternal and thought may be I should have one last baby
 ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ๐Ÿ˜•)
How weird are we........
So back to reality....I get another #period after 3 months...
and the build up to it was a pain in the ~~~~
the symptoms have been apparent for the last 3 weeks
 or more..
especially the hard stomach ..#nausea..#tender breasts...
 #back ache
( I actually thought I might have been expecting!!!! ๐Ÿ˜„)
no not really funny!
So the question is ..How long is this going to last..or do I
get hormone treatment...
Do I go au nateral...questions questions
oh and ive just remembered about another symptom..
and this is really annoying..thin skin!!!!!!
yes my skin especially on my face seems thinner..
less elasticity..less plump...
now that in itself is a big yessssss for hormone teatment
( if it addresses that ??)
So lets see how long this little #periodical lasts!!!!!!!

Bank Holiday Weekend

Good Morning Beautiful People...hope u are all enjoying your bank holiday
Image result for good morning yogi free images
Its fair to say that most of us look forward to a bank holiday weekend...( especially when its the last one before Christmas ๐Ÿ™ˆ)
for various reasons...
  • an opportunity to have a lay in/or just do nothing
  • time off work
  • spend more time with family/frends
  • visit old frends
  • visit one of the many events on
  • eat out/barbeque
  • DIY
  • catch up on housework/jobs
  • go to the sales
And I could go on....
so when I got invited to a barbeque/birthday party, I accepted
Lots of lovly food, few glasses of wine, and an opportunity to minglw with people that I dont know very well
And it was enjoyable
But how strange I felt... a lot like a fish out of water...
Over the last 30 years or so I have put loads of get  togethers on...birthdays, christmas, baptisms, family meals etc.... and I have always been the Hostess
So it was very strange for me to sit back and, not just relax ( I'm not really very good at that ) but to watch how other people do it ( not in a critical way!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰)
But an opportunity to people watch ( I love that..)
Related imageI can relate to the stress in the kitchen!  from the ladies mainly..buzzing round trying to keep everyone happy...to keep everything moving along smoothly..food/drink/cups/glasses etc ( oh yes remember that only too well)
you can observe the small groups that people congregate in...ladies seem to stay in the same groups..heads together hushed talks....
men tend to mingle and seem more relaxed from my observation.... talking loudly and openly
Related imagechildren running about laughing eating drinking...doing what children do best..enjoying themselves

Yes it was very nice but not something I would like to do every weekend...probably because I dont know the group well..and yes I am used to being in groups of people i know very well...
after saying that it is good to go out of our comfort zone sometimes and it was lovely not having the usual stress that goes with hosting an event... ( and it was very kind of people to invite us..)
but it kind of reminds me that I have always been a bit of a control freak ( ok ..my family would say a lot of a control freak ๐Ÿ˜‰) and loved all the control that came with me organising everything...
But, may be its age or wisdom or both ๐Ÿ˜‰ but I am quite happy to let others take the lead now and the STRESS....SOMETIMES

Be happy

Some people come with a special gift

so we all have that one person that comes into our lives and somehow changes how we see the world....it might not happen immediately ( although sometimes it can..especially if that person is someone you fall in love with )
more often than not, it happens over time and your love or admiration for that person grows with time and you start to notice how they have influenced your view of life..

they somehow give you the ability to see see the sun where you once saw clouds, they seem to  believe in you so much , you start to believe in you too. The people that love you, simply for being you.The once in a lifetime kind of people.
One such person came into my life several years ago..( having said that I am very blessed and have some very special people in my life..gifts from God )
And I must be honest I couldn't understand why she bothered with me...and she always made me feel so special...she had loads of friends..good friends..lovly friends ...and now I was one of them
I truly believe she was a gift from God....she renewed my faith in human beings...she wasnt related to me, and she didnt have to be nice to me..BUT SHE WAS!!!

and sadly it seems they are no sooner in your life than they are gone....Related image

But I feel very fortunate to have had her in my life...Yes some people come into our lives and leave footprints in our hearts and our souls...and we will always be grateful they are there....

That said..we should aspire to make the most of TODAY......
On that note ...I would like to share with you ANOTHER INSPIRATION
#Jean Dawson is 100 years old and still goes to her yoga classes!!
Jean Dawson practises #Iyengar Yoga which is characterized by the focus on  body alignment and by the use of yoga props such as yoga blocks and belts. Mrs Dawson says that yoga helped her cure her back pains and gave her better flexibility and stamina.
This amazing lady was still practising headstands and shoulder stands at the age of 97..
but unfortunately had to stop due to blood pressure...
I think the most amazing fact of this story is that Jean didnt start yoga until she was  67 after seeing an ad about it in her neighbourhood,  and credits it for her health and longevity.
“I don’t know how I would be today if I hadn’t taken up Iyengar Yoga. It has given me good posture, balance, concentration, flexibility and stamina,” reported Jean
Well I dont know about you....but if its good enough for Jean ..its good enough for me...so share her story with all your treasured family members...including those silver foxes, aunts, uncles, granma's ( my category ๐Ÿ˜‰) granpa's, mothers and fathers right now...
You know it makes sense....
The moral of the story?

Mindfulness

Mindfulness/Meditation
what is this?

Meditation is a simple practice available to all, which can reduce stress, increase calmness and clarity and promote happiness. Learning how to meditate is straightforward, and the benefits can come quickly. Here, we offer basic tips to get you started on a path toward greater equanimity, acceptance and joy. Take a deep breath, and get ready to relax. (david gelles)

for me I initially found even the idea of it very strange ..and difficult....
to lie in a room at the end of a yoga session,  full of people/strangers, possibly with my eyes closed was very uncomfortable territory....
I thought that I would never feel comfortable...my mind would be racing...wandering what I had to do later.....I could feel my heart beating and it felt that it would beat right out of my chest some times!!
I did not get anything out of it at all...to be truthful, sometimes I would leave before the meditation...
it just didnt suit my hyper personality
the concept of strangers/instructors seeing me at , what i percieved to be a very vunerable position, filled me with stress ( the complete opposite of what it should do)
But, 12 months on, I'm pleased to say that i stuck with it and hung around for meditation more often and it started to feel a lot less alien.. and.I actually find myself looking forward to it
its fair to say that some days are better than others...I can get to quite a calm state in a few moments ..listening to the instructor and taking it all in....
an instructor can be a really good focus and I personally think I would find it a lot harder on my own......on a good session I experience a calm that that I have never felt before....a stillness..a quietness.. quieten the mind....
And then other days ..i struggle...  even to relax..I am constantly distracted,

It is very early days for me and I am looking forward to learning more about meditation...
we are instructed to remember the calm and to take it with us..to be recalled when we find our selves anxious....I find it fascinating

Good Morning on this historic day when The USA got a wonderful show of A Total Eclipse

They saw the moon blot out the sun, cause a drop in temperature and turn daylight into twilight. It is expected to be the most observed and most photographed eclipse in history.
for some people a once in a life time opportunity.....
Day turned to night for two minutes during the eclipse, visible in a 70-mile-wide (113-km-wide), 2,500-mile-long (4,000-km-long) zone in the US, drawing one of the largest audiences in human history.
The last time such a spectacle unfolded from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast was in 1918. The last total eclipse seen anywhere in the United States took place in 1979.
The Canadian Space Agency described the initial glimpses of the eclipse as "Beautiful!" as Americans watched in wonder through telescopes, cameras and protective glasses.  ( as reported in the telegraph )
Related imageThis brings back memories of when I saw the eclipse in the Uk.... my memories are vivid and it feels like it was only yesterday... it was infact 11th august 1999 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ  and we were in woolacombe...
It was very eerie.. it dropped cold...darkness descended on us and there seemed to be a stillness with everyone observing this fascinating sight... the birds could be heard singing..as they would at the break of day..very odd sensation
I  was blessed with  4 children then and no granchildren and I am now blessed with 5 and 8 granchildren..( thank the Lord for them )
So I cant wait to see how much my family has grown when the next eclipse shows itself ( which is 2024..God spares us ๐Ÿ™)
Have a fab day๐Ÿ˜˜

so my previous blog was all about the celebrated yoga teacher #Tao Porchon-Lynch 98 years old

( Named “Oldest Yoga Teacher” by Guinness World Records in 2012)

yes an amazing lady to say the least...
and yes, surprisingly, there are a lot of amazing older people out there who devote their lives to being healthy and fit and include yoga in their recipe for a long and healthy life.
And funnily enough lycra leggings are NOT essential๐Ÿ˜‰
Related imageThe recent UCLA research took brain scans and memory tests, comparing the effects of 12 weeks of memory exercises with a course of yoga and meditation on 25 adults over 55. The latter not only had better improvements in their spatial and visual memories, but also more reduced depression and anxiety and increased resilience to stress. “Although this study is small, it suggests that we should be doing more research into the benefits of yoga and meditation as additional ways to keep our hearts and brains in good health as we age,” says Dr Clare Walton of the #Alzheimer’s Society.

There’s no need for hours and hours of headstands to benefit. In this study, volunteers did just one hour of #Kundalini yoga a week. This is a gentle form of yoga that incorporates breathing techniques, meditation and some chanting of mantras. The latter may feel silly at first but can be easier than other forms of meditation. The study participants also did 20 minutes daily of #Kirtan Kriya, a type of meditation involving chanting, hand movements and visualization of light.

there are many benefits that yoga can give to every one... but especially beneficial as we get older:
Increased flexibility
Strengthens muscles ( including ones that we may have forgotten about ! )
Creates mindfulness ( giving a feeling of empowerment, improving sleep, improving the way we breathe )
Improves Balance ( especially important as we get older )
Gives confidence ( an opportunity to join classes and regain a social life and companionship )
So be the best version of YOU at any age...its never too late to start Yoga
