Its fair to say that I am finding my yoga course very challenging ( I believe in saying it as it is....no good lying about it πŸ˜‰)
Image result for nadi shodhanaBut because of it, I have had to research some stuff...such as

Nadi Sodhana
(or to me and you...alternate nasal breathing )
If you are anything like I was before I started doing yoga, you are probably still thinking..'what ever is she on about?'
It is a fascinating subject.
As it sais on the can it is the practice of breathing through the nostrils alternately.
So the right nostril is gently pinched and you breathe in for a count of four through the left nostril and then left nostril is pinched and at the same time the right one is released and you exhale through right one for 4 counts.   Then you breathe in through the same one (right) that you have just exhaled through. Pinch that nostril and breath out through the left nostril for a count of 4 and then in for a count of 4. ( I know that probably sounds really complicated).
So here is how the professionals explain it.....
  1. Close the right nostril with your right thumb and inhale through the left nostril. Do this to the count of four seconds.
  2. Immediately close the left nostril with your right ring finger and little finger, and at the same time remove your thumb from the right nostril, and exhale through this nostril. Do this to the count of eight seconds. This completes a half round.
  3. Inhale through the right nostril to the count of four seconds. Close the right nostril with your right thumb and exhale through the left nostril to the count of eight seconds. This completes one full round.
BY holisticonline.com

I have done this before but it was very interesting to delve into it a bit more.
Its something you can do pretty much anywhere at any time although they do say it is better in a morning on an empty stomach or several hrs after eating.
Apparently we alternate between our nostrils with out realising it, at various times of day, and a healthy person will alternate nostrils on average every couple of hours. and also one is usually more difficult to breathe through than the other.
According to yogis if the breath continues to flow through just one nostril for more than 2 hours that it can have an adverse affect on our health, and that the longer that continues the worse the health will get.
If the breath continues to flow through the right then the result can be a mental and nervous disturbance.
If it is the left then the result is chronic fatigue and reduced brain function.
recent scientific studies have revealed similar results.
The right side of the brain controls creative activity, while the left side controls logical verbal activity. The research showed that when the left nostril was less obstructed, the right side of the brain was predominant. Test subjects were indeed found to do better on creative tests. Similarly when the right nostril was less obstructed the left side of the brain was predominant. Test subjects did better on verbal skills. For example, the yogis have known for a long time that prolonged breathing through the left nostril only (over a period of years) will produce asthma. They also know that this so-called incurable disease can be easily eliminated by teaching the patient to breathe through the right nostril until the asthma is cured, and then to prevent it recurring by doing the alternate nostril breathing technique. The yogis also believe that diabetes is caused to a large extent by breathing mainly through the right nostril. (by holisticonline.com )

Yes its the !st day and the exclamation mark is deliberate ( I know its hard to tell with my blogs! πŸ˜‰)
So my decision to take my yoga passion forward ( see previous blog ) is well under way.
Image result for and remember to breathe
So my !st day was a day full of mixed emotions... and I thought it might be a valuable life lesson to revisit it ( whilst its still fresh in my mind ) and use it for my journal. ( which I need as part of my Yoga instructor course )

It was made marginally more comfortable by the fact that I was coming along with someone else.
Katie,  one of my instructors in another class, was also on this course, but other than at the leisure centre,  I didnt know her.
BUT I really felt out of my depth.  Was everyone else feeling the same as me?  Everyone else had probably done a lot more yoga than me! (hadnt they?) They definitely seemed more knowledgeable than me.  They were all different ages but I would say I was one of the oldest.  I was expecting at least half of them to be wearing some kind of 'yoga attire'  beads, braided hair etc ( but there wasnt any ... no I didnt have any on either lol )
Just shows what kind of stereotypical pictures I had in my head!
But there was all different types.  9 women and 1 guy. From different walks of life, including a nurse a cosmetic tatooist amongst others.
Image result for yogis at the ready cartoonThe tutor was not what I expected either. I dont really know what I expected!  probably someone who looked more like a 'YOGI'?  lol  ( what even does a yogi look like )
well they look a lot like the rest of us, a very mixed bunch.
Ist day consisted of explaining the course and an awful lot of information crammed into a short amount of time.
There was an opportunity to do some practical too.
And then the awful realisation that we all would get an opportunity to have a go at teaching!!!
Each of us had to teach several class members. It was only Introduction and mobilisation BUT I was so stressed. I have never had to do anything like this before and I was well out of my comfort zone.
And its fair to say I did NOT enjoy it.
And the strange thing was I had done all the moves/sequences etc hundreds of times before ( they were a very simplified version of what I do ) YET when it was my turn to teach I couldnt remember anything..HELL I'd even forgot how to breathe!!!!
( did I really choose to do this ? )

3 weeks? that cant be right

Hi there.... I cant believe it has been 3 weeks since my last blog

reason.... for the love of my yoga ( or not at the moment 😣 )

Why do I do this to myself?
Related imageEverything was going fine, I was not working, I was doing 6 classes a week, yoga and body balance, and going to the gym!!! yes I was feeling damn good.
No stresses ( well hardly any, obviously still got my husband, 5 children and 8 grandchildren...but hey, thats norm...right? )
But could I be content?   No!
I had to find something extra to do!
I could do more classes?
I could do more retail therapy ( theres only so much you can do ! )
I could do more girly lunches?
OR........ I could train to be a yoga instructor!!!!!!!!  Mmmmmm
So how lucky was I, when I found out that one of the instructors from my local leisure centre was just enrolling on such a course πŸ˜ƒ and would I like to join her?
( I hadnt thought of doing it quite that soon!!! )
So the suggestion was no sooner said and I had enrolled.
( Yes its fair to say I have seriously lost the plot)
So its been several weeks and the stress is killing me ( yes I know ..I thought yoga was supposed to relieve stress too )
I knew it was going to be tough but really, I had no idea what I was letting myself in for.
1st practical weekend was so intense, Asanas, breathing exercises, teaching...
And the assignments, well they are something else.
By the end of the 2nd day I was numb, I seriously could not take any more information in.
Uttanasana Image result for uttanasana    I couldnt even remember where my knees where!!!!!

Yep all I wanted was sleep  zzzzzzzzz

But as we all know.....stress levels do not equal a good nights sleep.....or good digestion or anything else that good !
When I am awake all I am thinking of is yoga yoga yoga and I am praying for sleep...and when I am asleep I am dreaming about it and wide awake after an hour or so ... full of energy NOT!!!!
Hence...why I am wide awake at 3am blogging.....
Wish me luck on my journey
(I am definitely gonna need it ! )

Get stretching - Parsva Sukhasana

Good morning... its time to stretch
I start with a few gentle breaths to waken the body.. here goes.. Tadasana - mountain pose

Image result for mountain pose yoga
Inhale through the nose and stretch your arms up and above your head, keeping feet grounded and close together..letting the in breath inflate your chest
exhale through the mouth, returning the arms back down to the sides of the body, noticing how the chest deflates on the out breath.. repeat this several times making the breath deeper with each breath..filling the lungs with fresh oxygen and expelling the stale breath
focus and keep breath smooth and controlled... try to stretch as tall as possible ( keep upper body soft and legs strong, knee caps lifted  )
A few sun salutations to warm up the body as seen in previous posts...
and onto some side body stretches... ( some of my favourite asanas )

Image result for seated side stretch yoga poseStarting off in an easy seated side stretch- parsva sukhasana.  This is an excellent stretch for the waist and side of the body, including the neck and shoulders.
I find this beneficial for my obliques and back, a part of the body that I dont usually stretch in my usual day to day movements.
This is one of the asana that I have seen noticeable improvement since i started practising yoga.  I love the lengthening that I feel from doing this pose.

Image result for Parsva Sukhasana show muscles used
A more advanced asana can
be seen here Parivrtta janu sisasana ( seated side stretch ) it also shows which muscles are being used. This gives the sides of the body a fantastic stretch as seen in the diagrams, it has many benefits including opening and lengthening the side of the body and intercostal muscles between the ribs.
It also massages the abdominal organs improving digestion.

It is important to keep both sitting bones down and to keep lengthening before stretching over to side.

well hello... its been a few days hasnt it ? ...and I'm surprised i can remember I even have a blog just lately!!

Seriously ..dont know what it is just lately but I just cannot be bothered with anything, I seem to be in backward mode...
I have been to the gym once this week.  ( now that is unheard of and YES... i feel s**t )
I'd like to say that In have got loads of my course work done..but ..that would be a lie...
And it's not for the want of trying, I get the books out , put the computer on, and then..NOTHING..
I read the pages but nothing seems to be going in...  ( and yes I think its all to do with the dreaded menopause, and its damned INCONVENIENT ) and I definitely have not got time for this s**t
Funny thing is ...I keep saying to myself 'I will start tomorrow'   and tomorrow comes and goes... and the words still dont register.
And my course work due date is getting closer and closer ( and the really odd thing is ..I dont seemed bothered..usually I would be really stressed....

Happy Cat

Not every day is the same and that is also the case with my yoga practice.
Today was one such day, I was really looking forward to it, mainly because I had been feeling a bit run down due to work load etc and I knew it would make me feel better.
Our instructor arrived looking full of 'sun salutation' as usual..she has a way of making me instantly feel fab, she is just so bubbly and full of energy

Practice starts with a gentle flow from  bitilasana ( cow pose ) through to  marjaryasana ( cat pose ),

A lovely gentle stretch to start our practice.

This warms and stretches my spine and helps me to let go of the stresses of the week, it is an opportunity to open the chest and allow the breath to become slow and calm, inhaling through the nose, filling the lungs with oxygen, at the same time allowing the belly to drop towards the mat and lift the chin and chest and look upwards ( cow pose )... pausing momentarily,  then exhale through the mouth, drawing naval to spine and at the same time rounding the back toward the ceiling, and releasing the head toward the mat gently ( cat pose ).

This has the effect of bringing me immediately into the moment, focusing on inhaling/exhaling deeply into the asana (poses ) using the breath to flow effortlessly from one to the other.

We repeat this 10 times breathing more deeply/slowly with each move,
coming to rest, sitting back on heels in an upright position.
Feeling Purrfect 😻 πŸ˜‰

Benefits of these asana include

  • encourages flexibility to the spine
  • stretches muscles in back, hip, torso, neck, shoulders
  • stimulates internal organs
  • opening lungs

But today was different...still got up early, did a bit of my course work πŸ˜‰( cus I got to get it in )
and decided I was going to take a nice cup of coffee back to bed!!!
and just CHILL with the husband... like I had nothing else in the world to do ( and it was fab... ) sometimes I'm just too busy living that I actually forget to LIVE.. and enjoy it....

just spending the day with loved ones ( no exercise classes and no golf today! ) chilling and catching up, eating at home...

Not feeling myself

Good Morning 😚or rather not

Related imagegot up at my normal 6.30 am and I'd got the worst headache ever ( i do have quite a few but this was a corker ) tried to ignore it and go about my business, but realised it wasnt going anywhere soon.  Then I realised it wasnt just a headache, my joints were aching, i had backache, my legs were hurting and i felt very sick, ( these are very similar symptoms I would experience before my period, which as I have said in previous posts are about every 3 months now) but its my inability to regulate my temperature i find really strange!!!
If I am not having a flush, with steam coming out of my ears!! I'm freezing cold.. what is it all about.
So I must admit I had to go back to bed, which I never do, much too hyper for that.  And as I feeling so cold,  I just welcomed my duvet. And it was bazarre because I just drifted into a deep sleep, almost dilarious  dreaming of things and people from years ago..very odd.
I emerged about lunch time feeling a little groggy and set about getting back to normal..  which took a while.
But next morning I felt fine, little washed out, but lovly, and was raring to go to my yoga class.
Very strange, too short lived to be a bug or a cold, or even anything connected with the 13th 😏, and I did think may be i'd eaten something that didnt agree with me, but I think there would of been different symptoms....and the fact that I have been having these temperature fluctuations regularly now for about 3 weeks is really knocking me off my feet.
I am definitely thinking more MENOPAUSE symptoms and I am really thinking of seeing my GP for some HRT!!!

Not been feeling the best ..need my yoga practice

I'm guessing its due to the time of year ( its normal for me to have a cold/flu etc in the autumn/winter months) that I am feeling a little odd!
I use the word ODD because I dont feel ill but I do feel all of these: tired, weak, lack of motivation, cold, sniffles, not sleeping well.
It could be one of several things, spending a day outdoors when I initially didnt feel well, change of weather, onset of a cold or the dreaded menopause,
Having said that it seems since I found 'Yoga' ( this included drinking more water, eating a healthier diet, doing more exercise/classes and so on ) I do not have any where near as many colds as before.
( could just be a coincidence lol )
So it came as a bit of a shock for me to feel unwell.  So I did initially just carry on as norm but realised quite quickly that I needed to give myself a break and listen to my body!
Image result for yoga rocks I've rested ( well not rested, but not done any classes for a few days, 4 days!!! ) so only done some stretches 1st thing each day.
Thats been very difficult for me as I am quite hyper... so I am in a hurry to resume normal service as soon as possible
my home yoga practice starts with a few full standing body stretches ( mountain pose/Tadasana ) inhalingexhaling fully allowing the lungs to fill/empty with oxygen...stretching all the stresses out and away..i love this stretch
on to a few gentle forward folds with legs bent ... being kind to my body as I havnt done anything for a few days.
continuing onto all fours..a few cat/cow poses  inhaling into cat exhaling to cow pose...feeling a lovly stretch in my back/shoulders
onto my back for some leg stretches...raise leg grasping behind knee.. moving to shin and finally ankle..feeling a stretch in my groin and hamstrings..feels good to stretch, holding the stretch for a few breaths and gently rotating ankle both ways... intensifying stretch  ( then onto other leg )
then onto a seated forward fold..exhaling down..inhaling up.  not getting very near to my knees this morning!!  but loving the stretch. after several breaths here, its back down to mat for a full body stretch, flexing and pointing the toes, arms above head for the ultimate stretch....
feeling energised and somewhat taller!!
and now its time for breakfast

have a fab day

Good morning hip stretch

Good Morning Hip Stretch/Openers ?

'Good morning'  and  'Hip stretch'   in the same sentence, does not sit well for me  ( no pun intended! )

I'm sure I'm not on my own when I admit I really dont like doing hip openers/stretches ( i'd almost go as far as saying I hate them )
And for me that means that I know I'm not good at them,  they are uncomfortable to do and i would go as far to say that some hip openers I attempt, actually hurt and this in turn makes me like them less....
so I know it is a good thing that I go to classes as well as do home practices
reason being is I would never choose to do a hip opening sequence, which in turn would mean that my hips would never get used to opening more, which in turn would mean it would always be uncomfortable...
good thing about going to the classes is that I never know what to expect, each class is different and will invariably have some aspect of hip openers, and because I'm taking part in the class I will attempt to do them, and also I can see that it is not only me that finds them difficult.

Having said that many poses that we do would not automatically shout out 'Hip openers'
and yet most poses we do will have some aspect of hip work..e.g

  • Downward dog
  • downward dog split
  • lunges
  • sitting in cross leg position
all of these will open the hips.. the benefits of hip openers are immense and include

    Related image
  • increased flexibility in hips... allowing even weight distribution, allowing even the most difficult tasks to be done efficiently.
  • release stress and tension on the spine.. increased hip tightness means that the spine has to over compensate, causing back pain
  • improve actions like bending down and movements that include leg lifts.
More intense hip openers include:

  • Pigeon pose
  • lizard pose
  • Hindi squat
  • Frog  ( my pet hate ...will I ever get flat... NO !! )
And of course it is always important to remember that every ones body is different including our hips.. so what is accessible for one person may not ever be to another
Always work within your limitations

yoga journal..how do I feel

So its been awhile since I did my yoga class ( holidays )

initially after class, felt really achy..tough class, lots of long sequences...
really aware of fingers/wrists/forearms/shoulders
leg muscles/ butt definitely feeling worked
lot of shaking in class today.... trying to focus and not come out of the pose..dont let it beat me..dig in
plough was almost a welcome relief!!!
as was the medi  session

morning after, definitely remember my class
shoulders quite achy, wrists a little stiff but surprisingly not too bad
first full standing stretch of the day bought it all back....
breathing in and stretching up allowed me to stretch through stiff shoulders/forearms..down through to ack and rib cage...down through lower back/glutes/ quads/knees/caaalves
first stretch of the day feels amazing... allowing mysef a baby back bend....delicious
inhaling and strtching up and over into side bends...feeling the effects of yoga class yesterday and also feeling the strength in my abs oblique muscles as they engage to bring my torso back to an upright position...and into a baby back bend stretching the ab muscles
standing side stretch is one of my favourite stretches...allowing me to stretch away all the toils of yesterday...
a few gentle neck twists also feel good, followed by shoulder rotations
moving on to standing forward folds feeling the stretch throught he backs of my legs/glutes and down to my calf muscles...taking it gently through the 1st few folds
moving onto a few standing wists...loosening up my waiste/back....feels fab
( feeling a little bit, like I did, when I first started doing yoga.... really feel like i worked hard in my class yesterday... that litle break from yoga/exercise worked wonders) feeling strong and energised...
bring on the day....

So we had our lovly holiday in Cyprus..( and I havnt even got time to blog about it!!!! )

Main reason...... I am throwing myself into this Yoga course ( and I have not got enough time )
i am on a time schedule to get my Yoga journal in  ( 60 hours worth!!! )
and yes...of course I am doing that amount of classes etc but fitting so many classes in and then finding time to write about them is proving almost impossible.....I love doing the classes but not so keen on doing the write up after πŸ˜’

Good thing is 2 assignments done, so on wards and upwards we go  ....

I attended a fantastic yoga workshop this weekend and I hope to be able to tell all..but not just now...
Just to say ..It was amazing ....full of love and calm and laughter  ...( yes 'laughter'...because its good for the soul... yes really )..oh yes and stretching!!!!  😘

And of course there are still all the mundane things to tackle....

My favourite class of the week to date

My Saturday morning yoga class is amazing..the instructor is an amazing young woman who just inspires me.
Before I get their I am my usual hyped up individual, always rushing round, chasing my tail, ( even if I do get up at stupid oclock ) and always on the go.....
that is until I get into my Yoga class and this morning was no exception.
Little bit of chat with the class members about the forthcoming yoga work shop before the class starts leaves us all feeling a little excited and curious.
But soon we are right into the class with a few slow deep breaths to begin our class and ease us into the practise....
I have noticed of late how much quicker I get into the moment...
. The instructor reminds us that it is our practise and not to compete with others in  the class...(one of my pet habits in the past...sure, I'm still very competitive, but I dont tend to watch others int he class now, I try to focus on what I am doing and just to compete with myself, improving my own practise )
This is really good advice as we are all different, with different body shapes, some more flexible than others, and all bringing to the class different issues, all of which can hamper or aid the practise.  What might be good for us to do on one day, may not be good on another day.....
So I always try to treat each practise with a fresh outlook...I do my best..I be he best I can be....
But as our instructor reminds us ( she refers to Ahimsa, one of the 5 Yamas, Non-violent/non harming, and that means to our selves also )...we also have to be kind to ourselves..if we need to take a break..that is ok.... we can resume when it is good for us..( that is not to say that we shouldnt push ourselves to try to be better..it means that it has to be balanced.....and the fact that we are present in the practise means we want to be the best we can )
It is an intense class with lots of asanas I havnt practised for a while, I feel invigorated, and strong, and somewhat stretched!!!!
The class ends all too soon... with 10 minutes savasana/meditation..and opportunity to relax my body and mind and to give thanx that i am able to take part in my yoga practise....

After 10 days of  not doing a yoga class....

 fotos by chardonnay

Our holidays are over and its back to normality/reality
some of the things that we come back to I'm sure are not always welcome!!
all that washing..ironing...cleaning...etc
sunshine ...sea...cocktails are now just beautiful memories...

seeing our loved ones and being in places we feel familiar with, I'm sure are some of the things we feel happy coming back to....
for me, getting back to my exercise routine, is also really important....especially my yoga
(thats not to say that I dont want to get back to see my lovly family πŸ˜‰, I miss them loads really )

So my 1st class in 10 days is done, and yes it was tough going....

I really couldnt wait to get to it ....my body felt like it needed a good stretch, especially after that 5 hour flight ( which was not enjoyable...after being up for 15 hrs, then the flight, then the 2 hr difference, its fair to say that we were feeling a little fragile...  )
it started very gently with some nice loosening up exercises/forward folds etc but quickly moved onto some quite intense strength asanas/poses...moving through several sequences of downward dog, 3 legged dog, plank, and side plank which was , for me, quite tough!! 😩 ( was I really missing this! )
moving on, twists of different variations!!...and by now I was feeling very tired..so the arrival of some work on our back was very welcome.....
Our class finished with 10 minutes meditation which was very welcome...an opportunity to rest and breathe.......and focus on nothing but my breath entering and leaving my tired body πŸ˜”

yoga journal...

woke early....mind working overtime
yesterday was a heavy day ( stress wise ) and I think my brain was still there!
(trying to get my 1st assignment in...before my hols
trying to sort out apprenticeship applications for my 16 year old..
sorting holiday arrangements out for forth coming holiday...clothes, toiletries, taxi to airport, making provisions for family members!!! ( 3 days time !)
getting a card and gift for mine and hubbies anniversary..2moro!! ( even though he WILL forget )
not forgetting all the usual day to day things that have to be done...)
And breathe.....
I noticed my body was still there too as I got out of bed....back and joints were noticably stiff....i think they were stressed too!!! holding on to all those memories from yesterday
Unbelievable how stress can affect the body as well as the mind...my body takes on a whole new shape/posture when I am stressed... shoulders and ears noticably connected πŸ˜‰ spine slumped into my hips!!! and the pain in the base of the skull must be due to my head wanting to disappear in between my clavicle and scapula!!!  ( no wander I'm aching πŸ˜‰ )
Need to address this with a few nice in breaths/out breaths...stretching my arms above my head and taking a nice full body stretch...getting my neck and head back to normal position! rolling my shoulders back and forth and getting them away from my ears...
Positivity starts to return as I remember I have a yoga class in a couple of hours...( not just any class, but my favorite one of the week)
As the morning went on ..its fair to say that a few negative thoughts crept..
(my cousin rang to say she wouldnt be able to make the class as she had to much to do for our hols!)
(yes I've got loads to do too?  I could do a quick session at home and crack on with my jobs!!)
so easy to let negative thought stop us doing things....that little voice in the head
But I'm glad to say...I went and as usual it was amazing/inspiring/exhilarating/
The instructor was full of her usual energy...puts me in the mind of a perfect sun salutation..
and I instantly remembered why she had inspired me to want to be an instructor and to hopefully pass on to others, what she gives to me πŸ’“
Why did I even consider not coming?
Image result for yoga quotes image freewe started with a deep breaths in and out, calming us and getting us ready for the class.
we did some shaking nxt!! knees bent slightly and shaking our booties, and then doing small jumps on the spot and hugging ourselves/slapping our backs....sounds a bit odd..but it served to wake up our bodies and create energy and warmth, and a little bit of humour, ( when you spotted yeself in the mirror )  breaking down any awkwardness in the class....again I asked myself
'why would I want to do chores instead of this?' I love my yoga
Nicely warm now....we continue into adho mukha svanasana..with an opportunity to pedal our heels to release our calf/hamstrings,( i still struggle with getting my heels to the floor, but it is a working progress )  bending from side to side, with bended knees, feeling a good stretch in each side of the body....thoughts of yesterday melting away as I push myself into the twists, releasing the stiffness from my shoulders
next was sun salutations, again stretching getting rid of stiffness, enjoying breathing into the forward folds and backbends releasing any remaining tension....allowing me to focus and feel my mind becoming calm.
next came the twisted asanas....starting with intense pose,  twisted chair pose, massaging the internal muscles... I have been trying to improve this as I felt my flexibility was not very good, although I do think it is improving, our instructor encourages us to twist as fully as possible...onto twisted lunges..feeling very stretched!! more to come..onto twisted triangle...I always feel my alignment is not good in this pose.even with the help of the block.(which could be why its not one of my favorite poses ) the instructor came round and helped us with alignment..but I do find breathing in this pose quite tough.
is at this stage I get a few negative thought pop into my mind, struggling a bit now..need to learn to focus more....more than half way through the class and its tough going
opportunity to rest a little and to relax into the pose...into a belly twist...i like this pose more, and we are encouraged to try the variations, one leg extended etc
we end with shoulder stand moving into plough...I love the roll motion into plough....releasing the back
we settled into Balasana Baby pose ..phew opportunity to relax into this lovly pose..lenghtening and stretching the spine, shoulders and even the legs, instructor encouraging us to sit right back on our heels and reach gently forward....focusing on our breathing, calming down our breath /minds.
and onto relaxation.......

To do yoga everyday is a gift to ourselves
a gift that brings with it many benefits

No 2 days are the same ..something we all agree on I'm sure
Some mornings we wake and are full of energy and good intentions..
and other days we wake and that energy somehow still seems to be sleeping!!
Sometimes that energy needs a little nudge or a kick up the gluteus maximus πŸ˜‰
Yoga is a perfect way to do this..
on days like these I take a few nice deep inhales and exhales...stretching the arms above my head...inhale and reach for the sky and lower arms to the side of the body as you exhale..after several of these I move on to forward fold...
Forward fold with knees bent and exhale deeply, exhaling out that stale breath from the body..let body be quite relaxed /floppy as you exhale down..and gently draw in abdominal muscles, helping to push out that stale breath..repeat this several times....
I try to let this sequence flow smoothly from Tadasana ( mountain pose ) through to Uttanasana ( standing forward fold )
I am gentle with my body 1st thing in the morning and allow my knees to be bent in uttanasana, and move on to legs being straight after several sequences ( and if it feels good )
It is important to work to our own bodies limitations..it is our practise.
I soon feel the energy/warmth waking....
This sequence only takes minutes but sets me up for the day....so even if I am very limited on time I can still fit this in....and hopefully time permitting I can follow this with either a home practise or instructor led class at the gym.....
Have a fab day

journal Adho mukha svanasana

6 a.m.
Another early start for me ( balance class at 9.30)
Not so much soreness this morning as I stepped out of bed πŸ‘Œ
(  not to say that I cant feel my aches )
This is good it reminds me that I have been working hard, I'm aware of my upper arms in particular, and the muscles in the arms, still feeling sore. ( oh yes and pain in the butt πŸ˜‰ gluteus maximus )
( I remember in particular about 2 years ago, before taking up yoga, that I was experiencing a lot of discomfort in my wrists and elbows.  I remember being quite concerned about it, it was obvious for quite a few months and even just the simplest of every day actions, such as leaning on my elbow or carrying shopping would be very sore. I remember distinctly thinking 'Damn, I'm getting old!!' πŸ‘΅  and I was not happy about it. ) ( not particularly the getting old side of it, although, to be fair, I'm not happy about that at all, but its inevitable!!!, it is more the ailments that are associated with getting old!  that I object to)
another excellent reason to be as healthy as possible...be the best you.... see previous blogs
I can truthfully say on a day to day basis I do NOT have pain in my wrists, yes, if I have been doing a lot more yoga which particularly uses arms/ wrists/shoulders etc I do experience discomfort, BUT, and for me this is the important bit, it is temporary and reminds me that I am working hard and getting stronger)
Image result for adho mukha svanasanaso back to this morning....

I put the soreness down to the increased amount of adho mukha svanasana, ( downward facing dog poses) both at home /classes.
Probably one of the most widely recognised asanas ( moves/postures )
and a very good all in one posture which gives multiple benefits  ( to be revisited in future blogs)

Image result for adho mukha svanasana so continuing my day with some slow and deep inhale/exhale breaths ( see previous post )
before going through my sun salutations ( see previous post ) and now onto several repetitions of adho mukha svanasana to stretch out all those muscles...

onwards and upwards
